Communications Executive

The Football Association of Ireland is seeking a Communications Executive to drive the promotion of Grassroots Football in Ireland.

An integral part of the FAI’s approach to promoting football at all levels, the creation of a new dedicated website will provide a digital portal solely for grassroots football and the Communications Executive will be responsible for updating and maintaining this website, as well as current platforms and publications.

The role is primarily based in the FAI Headquarters on the National Sports Campus and the candidate will work within the Communications Department reporting directly to the Communications Manager.

This role will require flexible working including evenings and weekends in line with the business requirements as and when required.  The candidate will also be expected to travel and represent the Association in a professional manner and live the FAI values at all times.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for all grassroots editorial content on FAI platforms and publications
  • Maintain and update the grassroots football website as well as the grassroots football pages currently on www.fai.ie site
  • Working with the Digital & Social Media Editor to devise weekly, monthly and yearly plans relating to all grassroots activities
  • Updating all FAI digital and social media platforms for Grassroots  Football
  • Compile a monthly progress report and organisational calendar on all other tasks assigned
  • Liaise with clubs, Leagues and Associations to work directly with their respective media officers and secretaries
  • Work closely with Grassroots Department, Women’s Football Department, Referees Department, Competitions Department, Schools/Colleges Department, Coach Education Department and the International Department
  • Consult with FAI Football Development Officers to assist on and promote their various projects within their regions
  • Implement strategy to better promote grassroots football
  • Oversee the promotion of the Player Development Plan within Grassroots
  • Attend monthly meetings with the Grassroots Department as an when required
  • Assist the Communications team on specific projects, weekly news monitoring and hosting of events
  • Active involvement with FAI events, e.g. AGM, Seminars
  • Assisting with cover were necessary with team members
  • Covering communications tasks on a weekend and on a rotating basis
  • Other duties as assigned from time to time by the Communications Manager

THE PERSON:

The successful candidate will have the following:

Qualifications

  • Third Level Degree preferred in Journalism, Media Studies, Communications, Sports Management or equivalent

Experience

  • In-depth knowledge of Grassroots Football in Ireland
  • At least 3 – 5 years’ experience working in media / communications / journalism along with experience in video (TV / audio / digital media)
  • Proven track record in media, digital, social media platforms and/or communications and public relations
  • Proven track record of delivering high-profile, innovative campaigns
  • Previous experience of pitching fresh, creative approaches to projects
  • Experience in project management and delivery of KPIs
  • Be competent with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook (Full Microsoft office suite)/ Apple suite
  • Experience with Photoshop, Final Cut and Audio editing are highly desirable
  • Ability to prioritise, be thorough, detailed orientated and solution focused
  • Highly skilled in editing and working to strict deadlines
  • Strong understanding of social media (awareness, impact, implementation)
  • Experience of delivering desired results for a sponsor or stakeholder
  • Proven involvement in football (communications, administration, coaching, volunteering etc.)

Skills and Attributes                                        

  • Be self-motivated, enthusiastic and comfortable working within a team
  • Possesses excellent organisational, communication skills (oral and written), IT and reporting skills, with an emphasis on attention to detail
  • A comprehensive understanding of the structures of grassroots football in Ireland
  • Knowledge of the key participants and stakeholders within grassroots football
  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Track record of delivering detailed presentations
  • Ability to manage and influence key stakeholders
  • Experience of conducting interviews, writing match reports, and editing sensitive content
  • Willingness to adapt to challenges, to learn new techniques, and embrace opportunities for professional development
