Media Officer - Digital and PR

General Description of the Role

This is a demanding and fast-paced role based within GOAL’s Communications Team in GOAL’s headquarters in Dublin. As an important position within the team, the Media Officer - Digital and PR  will play a crucial role in delivering high levels of public engagement across a number of public audiences, with their primary focus to generate and manage online content. The role requires a results orientated approach with clearly defined metrics which need to be delivered consistently.

Injecting energy and creativity into our content strategy, we’re looking for someone who can work across a variety of mediums and influence everything we do online. Responsible for creating national awareness campaigns, you’ll be in a unique position to influence public perception and highlight crises in the developing world.

The role will also include some traditional media and public relations work, including liaising with broadcast, print and online media outlets, and supporting with annual and ad hoc events and campaigns.

This role requires a creative individual who demands excellence and is passionate about making a difference. 

Key tasks and areas of responsibility:

  • Work closely with the media team to manage the social media pages (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn), the GOAL website, the GOAL You Tube channel, while also supporting with email marketing and proposed new digital initiatives. This includes contributing to the ongoing strategic direction of GOAL’s digital communications platforms with the aim of deepening and expanding the GOAL online community and supporter base in Ireland and overseas.
  • Work closely with the communications team to support the promotion of the organisation’s work and its advocacy messaging through traditional media platforms, including newspapers, radio TV and online media outlets.
  • Support the fundraising team in promoting their annual fundraising events and campaigns on a daily basis.

Content Creation

  • To generate, edit and manage the publishing of online content
  • Work closely with international staff to create engaging content that tells the story of our beneficiaries
  • Develop ideas into exceptional campaigns that will motivate donors to engage with and support our work

Community Management

  • Create and publish daily content across all GOAL social channels
  • Monitor, manage and engage with supporters in real time; identifying and creating engaging content that will drive interest.
  • Research new developments in social media, communicate your findings to the team and develop ideas based on your findings
  • Foster and develop positive relationships with our supporters, which in turn encourages their participation in GOAL events or the sharing of our messaging

Website development

  • Identify areas of the website that can be improved, and working with colleagues, agencies and advisors to implement.

Management of our PPC campaigns

  • Review and monitor PPC performance
  • Review and optimise PPC campaigns where necessary
  • Manage and optimise the organisation’s Google Grant Account

Manage all paid Facebook advertising campaigns

  • Review and monitor ad performance
  • Review and optimise PPC campaigns where necessary

Lead contact for all Facebook Beta Testing

  • Plan, coordinate and execute all campaigns linked with the Facebook Beta Testing programme
  • Build a strong relationship with all Facebook staff linked to Facebook’s Beta Testing programme 

Management of the GOAL website, including SEO, design and development and content management.

  • Working closely with GOAL staff to ensure that a regular stream of content is published to the website
  • Managing external agencies to deliver against campaign briefs, on time and on budget
  • Coordinate the design and development of all webpages, ensuring they have been created in line with current industry best practices
  • Keep abreast of developments in Search Engine Marketing
  • Monitor and review analytics, using user data to inform the future direction of the website 

General Media and PR work

  • Pitching news stories and ideas to media
  • Fielding media queries
  • Helping to organise events, photoshoots, media trips and other similar support where necessary
  • Review the morning press and prepare daily media reports on email for circulation to key staff

Requirements (Person Specification)

Essential

  • Degree qualification in a relevant field (media, communications, business)
  • Demonstrated experience in leading and implementing a social media strategy
  • Some experience in a PR-related role and dealing with media
  • Excellent writing skills
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Passionate about marketing and its potential to create positive change
  • Ability to take a leadership role in a team
  • Ability to manage priorities and heavy workloads

Desirable

  • Knowledge of the charity sector/international development sector an advantage
  • Commitment and interest in the work of GOAL
  • Interest in photography and web design
  • Good use of Photoshop and Illustrator
