Engineers Ireland is the professional body for engineers and engineering in Ireland. With over 23,000 members across the island of Ireland and overseas, we focus on the promotion and development of all disciplines of engineering, working collaboratively with industry, education institutions, state bodies and the public service. As one of the country's largest and longest-established professional bodies, we liaise closely with the engineering community to act as the voice of the profession and to promote excellence through a programme of ongoing accredited professional development and certification. As part of our STEPS programme, we run a variety of nationwide initiatives to encourage students to consider engineering as a career and to broaden their understanding of the profession and the potential employment opportunities available to them.
Engineers Ireland is expanding its Marketing and Communications team to ensure the organisation is best positioned to address the future needs of its members and the industries and institutions with which it works.
The organisation is therefore seeking to appoint an Events and Press Officer.
The candidate will report directly to the Marketing and Communications Director.
The Marketing and Communications team is responsible for leading the development and implementation of the organisation's corporate communications, strategic marketing and stakeholder-engagement policies and activiaties with the aim of further enhancing and strengthening the Engineers Ireland brand. The team has a key role in both raising the profile of the organisation and growing the membership across a diverse range of engineering disciplines, in close collaboration with the Membership team. Other team activities include the digital Engineers Journal; marketing; commercial sponsorship and partnerships; public affairs and digital communications.
This is a new position, reflecting the expanding nature of the organisation and the ambitious growth targets for Engineers Ireland in the coming years.
This is initially for a two-year fixed term contract based at the organisation's head office in Dublin 4. We are looking for a highly-organised, successful and enthusiastic Events and Press Officer to manage our press office function and to also organise our key annual events from conception, development, through to completion. These events are key corporate initiatives in our annual calendar and are important events for our membership. The events include our Excellence Awards, National Conference, AGM, Annual Ball, seminar(s) and others.
These events aim to support a core goal of the organisation in our new Strategic Plan (2017-2020), which is to 'build the profile and enhance the status and reputation of the engineering profession and to continue to enhance Engineers Ireland as its leading voice.' We need to ensure therefore, that we are leveraging the potential of these events to optimise public awareness of our work and to assist in achieving this goal.
While the efficient management of the events end-to-end will be important, it must be emphasised that in this key role, the successful candidate will also be expected to actively participate in identifying with the Marketing and Communications Director, key-note speakers, subject matter experts, propose key themes and work with other staff, including in some instances, the organisation's Regional Divisions.
The person will also be the Press Officer for the organisation and will be the main contact for the media. They will handle all dealings with the media. There will be a range of responsibilities from preparing and issuing press releases and organising press conferences and interviews, to liaising with media and monitoring media coverage of the organisation. The successful candidate should have a strong network of press contacts and influencers; have experience of dealing with journalists, of handling and responding promptly to press queries and be very familiar with writing press releases, PR planning and implementation.
Experience of working together with a PR agency in this regard would be desirable.
