These Rooms
ANU and CoisCéim Dance Theatre will create a live performance and film installation incorporating dance, theatre and visual art based on an historical incident in Dublin's North King Street in April 1916, that resulted in the killing of 15 civilian men
creative collaboration between ANU and CoisCéim Dance Theatre, These Rooms is an immersive, live performance and film installation that cross-pollinates contemporary dance, theatre and visual art.
The work is based on an historical incident, which took place on North King Street, Dublin in April 1916 and involved the killing of 15 civilian men. With reference to eyewitness accounts, These Rooms will take the form of an embodied, physical testimony drawing attention to the effects of conflict on ordinary people's lives and reaffirming the role of art in negotiating history.
Eye-witness testimonies from 38 female voices are combined with newly released findings of the closed British military inquiry. This fearless and embodied physical performance, investigates questions of dignity and cultural trauma, belonging and dispossession and in doing so aims to reaffirm the role of art in negotiating history.
