Dublin’s iconic canal side hotel, Hilton Dublin is currently undergoing an extensive €7.5 million refurbishment, which is due for completion in September 2008. The revamp promises to bring stylish contemporary looks and cutting-edge facilities to this popular venue. Located close to the city’s main shopping and business areas and next to the Charlemount Luas stop, Hilton Dublin is the ideal location for meetings, business trips and leisure visitors.

Google plugs YouTube into PS3

To the surprise of no one, Google is now offering software that streams video, photos, and music from your PC to your television.

"In the old days, we used to watch a simple device called a television. Nowadays, all the stuff worth watching and listening to tends to be stored on or accessed through a computer," writes software engineer David Garcia on the Google Desktop blog. "To help remedy this, we are pleased to release the Google Media Server."

The Google Media Server is a free Windows app that sends media files to your TV via the PlayStation 3 and other Universal Plug-and-Play (UPnP) devices. It works in tandem with Google Desktop, the desktop search tool that also runs various and sundry software widgets known as Google Gadgets.

With help from the Google Media Server, your TV can access videos, music, and photos stored on your PC, and naturally, it can tap straight into YouTube, the video-sharing site where Google hopes to serve an enormous number of advertisements.

Google is already streaming YouTube videos into living room via third-party devices like Apple TV and HP’s Media Smart TV. And now it’s reaching out for the Playstation 3 crowd.

The top 10 comedies feature two previous Emmy winners ’30 Rock and ’The Office’, as well as the animated series ’Family Guy’ and newcomer ’Pushing Daisies’.

Acclaimed programmes ’Curb Your Enthusiasm’ and ’Entourage’ are also on the list.

Online ads influencing offline sales

Up to 87 percent of visitors to some Irish websites are being influenced by online advertising when making offline purchases, according to research by AMAS.

The latest edition of the ’State of the Net’ report by internet consultancy AMAS showed that the audiences of Irish websites were strongly influenced by online advertising.

The study found that between 67 percent and 87 percent of visitors to 18 sites tracked by research project JNIR (Joint National Internet Research) use the internet to research offline purchasing decisions. These websites include RTE.ie, Ireland.com and Eircom.net.

"Online advertising was traditionally seen as influencing buying online, but now it is also influencing offline markets," Aileen O’Toole, managing director of AMAS, told ENN.

O’Toole said the internet ’tipping point’ is within sight -a stage that would see over 1 million broadband subscribers in Ireland. AMAS claims that Ireland has nearly 900,000 broadband subscribers, based on ComReg figures. This figure is higher than the recent OECD estimate of 767,800 at the end of 2007.

"We’re getting to a critical mass stage in broadband uptake," O’Toole said. When the tipping point is reached, AMAS expects an increase in online shopping by Irish internet users and a greater allocation of advertising budgets towards the web market.

Kate Moss set to lose Agent Provocateur to younger model

Kate Moss looks set to lose her £500,000 deal with lingerie label Agent Provocateur to a younger unknown model with a nose-ring called Alice Dellal.

Dellal, a 20-year-old half-Brazilian socialite, is said to have had a trial photo shoot for Agent Provocateur, with the results expected to be released in September.

The lingerie firm did not renew Moss’s contract last year amid rumours of a strained relationship with co-owner Serena Rees, but the 34-year-old returned for the bridal lingerie ads.

Dellal’s shoot could overshadow Moss’ bridal campaign especially as the brand is said to be looking for a "fresh face". A source in The Sun newspaper said: "Everyone is stunned. Kate’s shots were really well received, but bosses thought it time to move on. They want a fresh new face and think they’ve found just the candidate in Alice."

Agent Provocateur has denied that it has dropped Kate Moss, stating that pictures taken of the model for its bridal collection have proved to be "the most successful campaign we have ever done".

However it has shot a series of images for a collection launching in September, which will "feature a whole host of British and international beauties" but said that "it is far too early for us to confirm who these girls will be".* There had been speculation less than two weeks ago that Moss would be replaced by Lily Cole as the face of Agent Provocateur, after Cole appeared on the catwalk at an Aids charity event sponsored by the lingerie label.

It is the latest in a string of snubs for Moss this year who was replaced as the face of Burberry by Agyness Deyn while Naomi Campbell took her place at Yves Saint Laurent.

Online ad spend continues to soar

The amount of money spent on online advertising across Europe increased by 40 percent to EUR 11.2 bullion during 2007.

According to a report released by the Internet Advertising Bureau (IAB) of Europe and conducted by PriceWaterhouse Coopers (PWC), the value of European online advertising in 2007 increased by EUR 4 billion from EUR 7.2 billion in 2006.

"Despite a slowdown in advertising spend on some traditional media, the rise of online advertising in Europe continues unabated," said Alain Heureux, president of IAB Europe.

The report said that two-thirds of European online advertising budgets (EUR 7.3 billion) were spent in the big three markets -UK, Germany and France. Some smaller markets too saw significant increases in spending; online ad spend in Greece, for example, was up 91 percent year-on-year, Spain jumped 55 percent and Slovenia rose 49 percent.

Meanwhile, online advertising accounted for at least 10 percent of overall advertising spending in Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Sweden and the UK. Ireland’s online advertising revenue was not detailed in the report as Ireland is not currently a member of the IAB.

"The development of the more mature markets in Europe is a sign that they are seeing increasing amounts of investment from a wider range of advertisers than ever before," added Nicki Lynas, Senior Manager at PWC.

The IAB’s US report, which was also conducted by PriceWaterhouse Coopers, showed that the value of the European internet advertising market is drawing closer to the US. In that region online advertising revenues grew by 26 percent to USD 21.2 billion between 2006 and 2007. The report also showed that the growth of internet advertising revenues continues to outpace that of cable and television broadcast advertising revenues.

"Despite the current state of economic uncertainty, 2007 was another record year and the 13th consecutive record quarter. Interactive advertising is not just the future, it is the here and now, as it represents a meaningful and growing component of US advertising and marketing spend," said David Silverman, a partner at PriceWaterhouse Coopers.

Back to the European report search advertising generated the bulk of the online advertising last year, accounting for 41 percent of 2007 full-year revenues. It was followed by display advertisements, classifieds and lead generation ads (that is the fee advertisers pay to internet advertising companies that refer qualified purchases).

The sectors investing most in online advertising in Europe in 2007 were entertainment and leisure, telecoms, finance and insurance.

"In particular, advertisers from the entertainment and leisure sector, which spends the most money at present, have taken advantage of the interactive and social media formats on the web to promote their products and services," said the European IAB report.
